    Historicity of Semiramis

Historical mention of Semiramis by Valerius Maximus found here:

I do not read latin, I used [http://translate.google.com] to translate it as follows, ergo the strange choppy translation: In the childish breast 9.3.ext.4 so great a force of hatred He could, but also in the equally as a woman 's a lot of value: for the queen Semiramis of the Assyrians, to that body about with his head at the service of this was told to Babylon, busy at an end and the hair "on the other side still loosed at once to the fight against it, he ran it, nor did into the order of the beauty of the hair, rather than the city reduced it into the power of his own. on account of which a statue of the Babylon, been assumed to be of that habit, which exacted for the revenge of the speed of a precipitous he hath stretched out.

The rough translation is speaking of Semiramis hearing of a rebellion amougnst her people whilst she was preparing for the day.  She immediately ran out to the front of the army/people with her hair half curled, since she did not wish to wait until her hair dresser was finished to address the issue,  and calmed her subjects. So taken were they by her and her beauty they erected a statue of her.

Excellent site for the University of Chicago,  in the book 'Library of History' by Diodorus Siculus you may review information pertaining to Semiramis and Nimrod/Ninus in Chapters 1-6 available at this link below:

Note from 'The Two Babylons' by Alexander Hislop:
'Semiramis' - Sir H. Rawlinson having found evidence at Nineveh, of the existence of a  Semiramis about six or seven centuries before the Christian era, seems inclined  to regard her as the only Semiramis that ever existed. But this is subversive  of all history. The fact that there was a Semiramis in the primeval ages of the  world, is beyond all doubt (see Justin, Historia, p. 615 [unable to locate], and the historian Castor in Cory's Fragments, p. 65) on page 21.

Review for "The Two Babylons" by Alexander Hislop

What you should know about reviews for "The Two Babylons": A few people have negative things to say about this well researched book, such as "his scholarly research is a joke."...

Okay so I have one question in regards to people who claim this:
When did ancient classical texts become a joke to study and quote from? Because I missed that memo.  Are they like our sometimes dubious wikipedia entries? LOL Oh wait I forgot, only studying from ancient documents provided by the Vatican is acceptable research. Right,.... because their documents are SOOO old that they must be valid and honest. No bias there to spin any story to reflect better upon them.

Sorry! I grew up in a cult and know how they work. Only researching from "their" documents, such a generous provision, is one of the ways they program you to see that they are right.
Always use more than one source, more than one person or organization, in your research. It's the only way to really get an unbiased honest description of the subject at hand. This book also does this.

These people who attempt to discredit his research are Catholics none the less, and who can blame them, I mean "who likes to have their bubble burst?", Nobody!

Regardless this book "The Two Babylons" is an excellent primer to the ancient religions, their beliefs and practices, regardless who you pray to.

His bibliography is thurough, and detailed. If you are not familiar with the ancient writers such as Plutarch, Herodotus and the like, prepare to learn a thing or two. It is also a great introduction to this genre of ancient classical literature.

If you take the Word of God & ancient classic texts seriously, you can't help but agree with many of his conclusions, it is uncanny how similar the Egyptian/Babylonian rites are when held up to Catholicism's rituals.

The Catholics who have reviewed this book discredit it due to other fanatical cults or racists who have latched onto it and want you to think this book is full of paranoid delusions and conspiracy theories.  A simple review of well documented history shows this is not a THEORY

Also in regards to critics saying 'oh racists love this book' just because some manipulator quotes from a book does not make that book evil, lots of "people" misrepresent the Bible, but that does not make the Bible in itself evil.

For those who understand the Bible was written by God and we should take Him at His word, the author takes you by the hand and through the Bible to show you why he makes the conclusions he does and then supports these with classic texts in regards to the ancient religions reviewed. There are no mental gymnastics involved, he is drawing attention to information that is clearly spoken of either in the Bible or by ancient writers.

Always do your own investigation to INFORM your opinion [rather than having it FORMED for you] and with prayer.]
